Volante Florence Modular Huge Power Corner Sofa

The first thing to know about the Volante Florence is its size. Pictured here as a five section corner measuring 365cm x 365cm, this is a proper large scale sofa for a big living room or open plan space.

What makes it more interesting is that it isn’t simply one enormous fixed corner. The middle sections can be moved around, so the Florence can be reconfigured if you want to change the layout.

There is a nice contrast between its size and the way it looks. With the headrests down it has a relatively low, clean profile and doesn’t immediately look like a traditional reclining sofa.

Sit down and the comfort side becomes much more obvious.

The arm seats have powered recliners and powered headrests, so you can bring the head support up when you need it and adjust your seating position electrically.

The seat construction is also worth mentioning. Volante has used pocket springs together with a dual spring system rather than relying on a simple foam cushion. It gives the Florence a deep, comfortable sit but with good support underneath.

Then there is the fabric.

It has a very soft, smooth Nubuck feel that is difficult to appreciate properly from a photograph. Run your hand across it and it has that slightly suede like character associated with Nubuck, but this is a modern, durable upholstery with spill resistant technology, making it much easier to live with.

The combination works particularly well on a sofa of this size. It feels soft and inviting rather than overly formal, while the slim metal legs, low arms and adjustable headrests keep the overall design contemporary.

If you have the space, the Florence is well worth actually sitting on. Its scale is obvious in photographs, but the softness of the fabric, the support from the sprung seats and the smooth powered movement are things you really need to experience in person.
