Renowned Italian furniture brand Natuzzi has announced strategic changes in response to a challenging global market, including the closure of an underperforming store in the Greater London area. The move is part of a broader effort to streamline operations and reinforce the company’s presence in high-potential regions.

First Quarter 2025: Sales Dip Across Global Markets

In its Q1 2025 financial update, Natuzzi S.p.A. reported total sales of €78.1 million, a 7.6% drop compared to €84.5 million in the same period last year. The company cited macroeconomic headwinds and shifting consumer behavior as key factors impacting performance across several major markets.

Sales fell across all key regions:

  • Western & Southern Europe: -13.6% to €24.9m
  • North America: -5.4% to €22.9m
  • China: -3.3% to €5.5m
  • Emerging Markets: -8.5% to €11.4m
  • Rest of World: -5.7% to €10.5m

Despite the setbacks, Natuzzi reaffirmed its commitment to improving operational efficiency and enhancing its product and retail experience worldwide.

UK Market Update: London Store Closure

As part of its international optimization strategy, Natuzzi closed two Natuzzi Italia stores, one located in San Sebastian, Spain, and another in Greater London, UK. This decision reflects the company’s focus on consolidating retail operations and enhancing performance in regions with stronger growth potential.

To strengthen its footprint in the UK, Natuzzi appointed Antoine Nicolay as the new Country Manager. With over a decade of experience in luxury and consumer goods, Nicolay will oversee both retail and wholesale operations in the region.

Shifting Production and Investments in Innovation

Natuzzi has continued its transformation by relocating part of its Natuzzi Editions production from China to Italy, impacting gross margins for the quarter, which dropped from 36.9% to 34.1%. However, this shift aligns with the company’s commitment to Italian craftsmanship and improving supply chain resilience.

The company invested €1.9 million during Q1 to upgrade its production facilities in Italy, further reinforcing its reputation for high-quality, artisan-crafted furniture.

Retail Strategy and Collection Highlights

In response to market changes, Natuzzi has intensified efforts across its three core sales channels: Direct Retail (DOS & FOS), Galleries, and the new Contract Division. Sophisticated analytics are now being used to monitor store performance, including foot traffic and sales conversion, enabling real-time optimization.

At this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan, Natuzzi made a major return with the launch of several new collections:

  • Natuzzi Editions: Feelwell, Dolcevita, and Neo Heritage
  • Natuzzi Italia: Comfortness and Circle of Harmony

These collections, rooted in Italian design heritage and enhanced through collaborations with world-class designers like Karim Rashid, Marcantonio, and Mauro Lipparini, reinforce Natuzzi’s evolution into a global lifestyle brand.

Looking Ahead: Focus on North America, Europe, and Asia

In North America, Natuzzi is reshaping its retail leadership, appointing Justin Christensen as VP of Retail and Sharri McIntyre as VP of HR. Both bring extensive experience from brands like Ralph Lauren and Louis Vuitton.

In Asia, the brand is preparing to replicate its Milan Design Week experience at a local level in China, aiming to boost engagement and retail performance in that key market.

Following the success of Natuzzi Harmony Residence in Dubai, the Contract division (targeting commercial and B2B opportunities) is gaining traction, signaling a new growth frontier for the group.
